Story Time

Early literacy...they say it's never too early to start story time. Let's be honest though, it's definitely more for me than for Lily. I like making weird voices even though they sometimes make her cry. And I like all the books with the pretty pictures even though she mostly wants to chew on the pages.

I told Husband I made Lily a Facebook. "Why would you do that? She's a baby!" (spoken in an incredulous tone) "No...not a Facebook. That would be ridiculous. I made her a face book with all her weird faces. Duh."  She loves that book. Who wouldn't?

Luckily (or unluckily while we were moving) I have about 7 giant totes full of children's books so she will never be in need of reading material. And yet when Half Price Books has a sale, it seems I always find a couple more. I might have a problem. But I guess as far as problems are concerned, this one is fairly mild. I could be one of those moms who obsessively takes pictures of her kid and posts them online as if her kid is the cutest thing since baby pandas. Now that would be terrible.

Family Vacation

We went on our first family vacation! And hopefully it was the first of many. We took a little drive down to Branson. Some of us really enjoyed the scenery.

Lily did a great job on the drive down! BJ finished up his work day at 6 a.m. and we headed out right after. I wasn't sure how she would do with 4 hours in a car seat but she did awesome! She was so quiet that BJ slept most of the drive!

While we were in Branson, we had some adventures. We went to a butterfly place.

We visited a tiny zoo. Lily loved the animals...except the Macaws. As soon as we walked up, they started screeching which sent her into a crying frenzy which made them screech more which made her cry louder. Macaws are prettier from far away...far, FAR away.

Lily also rose a horse for the first time. One handed?! Looks like we need to be saving up for rodeo lessons.

We went on a trolley ride, did a little shopping and swung on some swings.

On our way out of town, Lily went on her first college visit.

We had a great time and were so thankful for the couple of days to get away. She said she enjoyed the trip but would really like to go someplace with a Whataburger or some mountains. Maybe next year?

Apples and Bananas

There is a song kids usually sing in elementary music class. It says, "I like to eat eat eat apples and bananas."

I like to ate ate ate apples and bananas (sung with a long A sound)

I like to ite ite ite ipples and baninis (sung with a long I sound)

I like to ote ote ote opples and banonos (sing with the long O sound)

Well...whether they are bananas or baninis, Lily is a fan.

We Love Our Church

What does it mean to love your church? It means walking a 2 mile parade route while rocking a sweet side ponytail.

Lily now knows every word to some classic 80's songs like Don't Stop Believing and Footloose. And she was ready to be footloose because she couldn't adequately show off her dance moves while she was wrapped up. Maybe next year.

The weather was beautiful, the music was jamming and there was candy. It was a pretty fantastic way to spend a Saturday morning.

(But 2 miles really is a long walk.)

Happy Labor Day

Hope you had a nice relaxing Labor Day.

Maybe you did a little reading.

Or maybe you took a nap. Good for you.

Or maybe you watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Or had some family time.

Whatever you did, hopefully it was a great day!

Seven Months

Guess who is seven months old??

This last month has gone by so fast and Lily has changed so much. She went from being a stationary baby to a turbo rolling machine! And remember when tummy time was so terrible? Those days are long forgotten!

She is also working on her baby breaking dancing skills...which mostly just involves turning slowly in a circle. Who says white girls can't dance?

And she is getting really good at making friends but not really good at not hitting her new friends in the face. Isn't that something we all struggle with sometimes though?

Happy 7 month birthday Lily Faith!! Keep being awesome!!
